In addition to a high school diploma, every Summerlin cadet has the opportunity to earn an Honorary Summerlin Diploma and Medallion. The issuance of this diploma and medallion signifies that they have completed all Summerlin academic and academy requirements, and now possess the civic responsibilities and leadership skills expected of model citizens. The Summerlin Diploma and Medallion ceremony is one of our most prestigious ceremonies, which is held annually at Branscomb Auditorium, Florida Southern University. Our hope is, when a cadet walks across that stage to receive the Honorary Diploma and Medallion, they will experience a sense of pride that exceeds any accomplishments they may have achieved thus far. Earning both the diploma and medallion is a culmination of four years of challenging standard and non-standard high school requirements that is designed to motivate our cadets to become better citizens and contributing members of society. The requirements are:
- Obtain 150 community service hours by end of 1st semester, 12th
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA.
- Must not receive a Recovery Packet in 10th 12th grade because of lack of effort, not doing or completing class or school work, and/or high absenteeism. Receiving a recovery packet during those school years may forfeit the opportunity to earn the honorary diploma and medallion.
- Must complete the English summer assignments all four years and maintain a “C” or above in their English classes.
- Maintain good order and discipline.
- Wear all uniforms properly and with pride.
- Must complete all four years of JROTC and must pass the course with a 2.5 GPA their senior year.
- Must take two years of foreign language offered only by Summerlin Academy, with a few exceptions.
- Be on track to graduate (pass all required courses, maintain GPA, and completed all requirements as outlined by FLDOE).
- Must complete and earn a passing grade on the required Capstone research paper and project.
- Participate, with fidelity, in the JROTC physical fitness program.
